Azalea String Quartet
Quartet Biography
Formed in 2008, the Azalea String Quartet is comprised of alumni of the Cleveland Institute of Music. The quartet has most recently performed as finalists in the J. C. Arriaga Chamber Music Competition, and is preparing for upcoming competitions and performances. Since its inception, the quartet has been featured on TV and radio appearances, as well as numerous recordings for American Greetings.
The Azalea String Quartet and its members have worked with Erich Eichorn, Peter Salaff of the Cleveland Quartet, as well as members of the Miami, Cavani, Juilliard, Guarneri, Bergonzi, Arianna, Chester String Quartets and the Nobilis Trio.
The Azalea String Quartet is dedicated to music education. Its members are on faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Aurora School of Music and the Fairmount Center for the Arts. This summer, they will coach student chamber music ensembles at CIM's Summer Chamber Music Program.
As a featured quartet for American Greetings, the Azalea String Quartet can be heard on several of American Greetings' music cards. Two recent recordings include:

Rachel Huch, violin
Ms. Huch holds a Bachelor of Music Performance degree with Academic Honors from Michigan State University, a Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and is also an alumnus of the Meadowmount School of Music and the Encore School for Strings. Her former teachers include Lyman Bodman, Stephen Shipps, Charles Avsharian, and David and Linda Cerone.
Ms. Huch has won numerous concerto competitions and has performed as soloist with the Detroit Civic Symphony, the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and the Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony orchestras. As an orchestral musician, Ms. Huch has performed with the Lansing, Jackson, Battle Creek and Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestras and is currently Associate Concertmaster of the Ashland Symphony Orchestra. As a member of various chamber ensembles, Ms. Huch has toured the U.S., Europe and South America, most recently performing for the Costa Rica Music Festival. In addition, Ms. Huch has recorded for Vernacular Films, and has performed with popular artists including Bobby McFerrin, Barry Manilow, Josh Groban, Kanye West, and the Transiberian Orchestra.
Ms. Huch was appointed to the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Division in 2006. She has previously served on faculty at the Solon Center for the Arts and the Academy of Music in Okemos, MI.
Andréa Belding, violin
Ms. Belding pursued her undergraduate studies with David Russell at the Cleveland Institute of Music where in May 2004, she completed her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance. Ms. Belding also earned her Master of Music degree from CIM in both Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy under the direction of Stephen Rose and Kimberly Meier-Sims.
Currently, Andréa teaches violin and viola at the Fairmount Center for the Arts and the Aurora School of Music. She is also a contracted member of the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Firelands Symphony Orchestra. She performs regularly with the New World Symphony, the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, the Erie Philharmonic, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and the Lorain County Civic Orchestra. The last two summers were spent in Breckenridge, CO as a member of the National Repertory Orchestra. She is the first violinist of the Black River String Quartet which is in residence at the Lorain County Community College in Elyria, OH .
Jennifer Han Welsch, viola
Ms. Welsch received a Bachelor of Music degree in 2003 from the Florida International University, and completed a Master of Music degree in 2005 at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her professional chamber music and orchestral playing has led her to perform in Japan and across the United States.
Ms. Welsch has previously performed with the National Repertory Orchestra, Symphony of the Americas, the Miami Symphony and the Cleveland Bach Consort. Currently, she performs as a regular member of the Akron Symphony and the Canton Symphony. Ms. Welsch maintains a private studio teaching violin and viola in the Cleveland area.
Tara Hanish Klein, cello
Ms. Klein holds a Bachelor of Music degree (University of Michigan), Master of Music degree (University of Miami) and Professional Studies diploma (Cleveland Institute of Music) in Cello Performance. Her teachers include Richard Aaron, Ross Harbaugh, Anthony Elliott, Tanya Carey and Louis Potter, Jr.
Ms. Klein performs regularly as a member of the Akron Symphony and as cellist for the Indie rock band, Unsparing Sea. As an educator, Ms. Klein serves on the faculties of the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Division, Beck Center for the Arts, Fairmount Center for the Arts and the Avon School of Music.
In 2008, Ms. Klein performed at the Grammy Awards with the Foo Fighters as a winner of the 2008 My Grammy Moment Competition. She has also performed in shows with Kanye West, Josh Groban, Barry Manilow, the Trans Siberian Orchestra and Smokey Robinson. Ms. Klein is an alumnist of the Henry Mancini Institute and the Youth Orchestra of the Americas, and is a member of the Cleveland Cello Society and the New Directions Cello Association.
